Diversity
Imgur is an inclusive community that is popular with gamers, in fact over 91% of the users are gamers (Smith, 2014). Gamers are a diverse range of people as no two people are the same. They may share a common theme being gaming, but each person has different traits such as favorite food, book, animal all the way to different ethical views. More than 150 million users access Imgur’s website in order to share experiences with a wide range of people (Smith, 2014).From this, I can gather that Imgur caters for its users by having subsections to share political views, cute images of cats, recipes, essentially whatever you’re looking for there is a chance it will be on Imgur.
Being inclusive means that Imgur is including many diverse people from around the world. With this great range of diversity, you start to see how it is relevant towards my last blog about Space and Place in Imgur. Without diversity and inclusion, there would be no place for you to visit. No place to express yourself without judgment from others. This creation of space and place is significantly relevant towards Diversity within a social network.
In the end, it is clear that space and place can only be achieved by having diversity and inclusion. Without these things, no website or social network would ever feel like a place to visit, to share opinions or make each other laugh. Many people flow through Imgur's servers and only a handful creates popular images, but regardless of popularity everyone is treated equally and everyone has a voice.
